A Note From Our President

Dear Sewing Sisters,
Every summer I plan sewing projects and between gardening, trips, fishing, hiking well they just don’t get completed. I’m actually looking forward to a hibernation period where life slows down a bit and there is time to enjoy sewing with a nice cup of tea. Summer has flown past us and hopefully, September will bring some cooler weather and rain to help with all the fires. So far, I haven’t heard of any of our members being affected by the recent fires in the Mat-Su.
I had a lot of fun working the August fair intake and seeing kids proudly dropping off their projects for judging and display. We had around 15 volunteers arrive early on a Sunday morning to judge each garment, costume, bag, pillowcase, wall hanging, etc. Our new Fair Superintendent, Kirstin Tysver, said we had a total of 199 entries this year. This is an increase from last year! We are blessed with members who gave their time so generously to support the fair this year.
Please keep our sewing sister, Janette Schlereth, in your thoughts and prayers as she starts undergoing chemotherapy soon for a type of blood cancer. Janette has been a guild members for over 10 years and has often been my partner at the fair doing sewing demonstrations. She is in good spirits and looking forward to treatment and recovery. She gave me permission to share her mailing address in case you would like to drop her a note or card.
Janette Schlereth, 225 E Fireweed Ln, Suite 101, Anchorage, Alaska 99503
I look forward to seeing you all at neighborhood meetings soon. Until then, keep on stitching!
Julie Gleason, Chapter President

Thanks to everyone who joined the belated 2018 Holiday Party & Annual Chapter Meeting!

Upcoming Community Service Sew

CHILD LIFE DOLLS

SENIOR ACTIVITY CENTER | 1300 E 19th Ave | Saturday, October 5, 10am-4pm

This year’s Community Service Sew will focus on dolls and gowns to be donated to Providence Children’s Hospital. These dolls are used by medical professionals as a communication tool for explaining procedures to a child or diagnosing a child’s discomfort. The child is then given the doll and a little hospital gown for the doll, as their own to hold and keep.

Patterns will be provided at September neighborhood meetings, but if you’d like to get started at home, visit tinyurl.com/childlifedolls for patterns from Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.
